Nordic slopes in Lienz
In other places you will find countless lifts, but here you encounter ski-touring destinations like sand on a beach. Some appropriate for rookies, and others just for pros - for the depths of winter, and also for the start of springtime. Some truly special highlights await inside the Hohe Tauern National Park Holiday Region.
Touring destinations in Eastern Tyrol
The Drava River divides Eastern Tyrol into two regions: the Central Alps with the Venediger, Granatspitz, Glockner and Schober groups as well as the Villgrater mountains (also known as the Deferegger Alps) and the Gailtal Alps (with the Lienz Dolomites) and the Carnic main divide. About half of Eastern Tyrol lies above 2,000 meters, home to 241 3,000 m peaks. Around 100 square kilometers of the land is glaciated - exclusively within the borders of Hohe Tauern National Park.
